Surgery Date

on January 18, 2013

After a long month of waiting for some news I have finally been given a surgery date. I am going to have my surgery on February 15th at 8:00 am. I was supposed to go to Cuba on the same day with my parents and Owen, I had already cancelled the trip as we knew that I would be having surgery at some point and wouldn’t be able to go. On the bright side, the insurance company should have no problem giving us back our deposits!

I am glad the hospital called with the date of my surgery, but I’m sure I will have an all day kitchen dance party to relieve some of the stress that I am feeling. I don’t regret our decision in any way, however it is terrifying going under the knife!

As I said yesterday music makes me happy and really good music usually makes me laugh. I found a song the other day that will likely be played at my house a lot today, it’s called Alcohol by The Cataracs feat. Sky Blu from LMFAO. I don’t drink often but there’s something about this song that cracks me up.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend and I will blog at you again on Monday!

I’ll have to send you some good music too!

Geoff and I are around all week with no plans, the spare room is your’s whenever you need it and we can babysit Georgia too.

    • Thanks Jamie! I think Georgia will be going to Owen’s parents, but thanks for the offer! I’m glad Owen can use your spare room, he will appreciate being with you guys and not at a hotel. We will give you guys a call as soon as we find out when my pre-op is, we need your spare room that night also. 🙂

So glad you found out the date! And yes I’m sure it brings mixed feelings – that’s only natural. Love you!

Renee, I’ve been meaning to comment, just have been too busy at work!!! I’m so happy you got your date. I understand that it’s bittersweet, but, I bet you feel relieved now not having to sit and wonder when the phone is going to ring.

I’m so happy to see that they’re trying to move quickly. I know how excruciating the waiting and wondering can be.

    I love you, girl ❤

    XO

Love your groovy music ! I must admit I wouldnt get a chance to know your music unless you posted it.
Hope you are having fun dancing in your kitchen…bet Georgia wil have a quizical/puzzeked look on her face!
I bet having the surgery date is bitter sweet….however it takes care of the waiting just to get one….so you can focus on worrying about the operation! (I say with my tongue planted firmly in my cheek.)
    Hugs, Aunt Mimi & Ellen

    • I love all kinds of music. I was going to post Toes by The Zack Brown Band, because when we booked our trip I listened to it a lot, but I also knew that I would probably listen to The Cataracs a lot today, so I decided to go with it! 🙂 Georgia doesn’t mind my dancing, she usually ignores me but once in a while she will stand by me and wag her tail!

So now you know when the date is. Mixed blessings for sure. You can make your plans now, but now it also might feel more imminent. I am grateful to read your thoughts here on the blog. You are showing great courage. Enjoy your weekend, and I’ll come back next week to read what you have written.

    • I’m glad we can now get a hotel book for mom and dad and it’s nice just to know when things are going to happen. I’m glad you are enjoying the blog! Owen and I are off to your parents this weekend and then we have brunch with the Meyer’s on Sunday to discuss house plans! Wish Nick luck at his hockey game tonight for me. I’m sad I’m not there to see him play!

Well… I’m without alot of words here…. you put me in awe at the strength you have! Big hugs from your cuz in Hamilton…and I’ll be thinking of ya on surgery day, wishing a speedy recovery….oh and thank you sooo much for the blog. 🙂

Music has played a big part in my recovery. I find Jason Mraz to be incredibly uplifting. Good luck with your surgery!

Best of luck with your surgery. The hysterectomy for me was the easiest part, but I can say, be prepared!! Get yourself an awesome pillow for your belly, and a comfy spot that you don’t have to pull yourself up from! And stock up on the things that will make you smile. You won’t want to laugh for a bit – owie.

Thanks for stopping by my blog – hope my past posts have given you a bit of an idea as to what to look forward to!

    Dance while you can girlfriend!

    • Thank you! I have enjoyed reading your blog also. I’ve started hysterectomy shopping (that is such a weird thing to say), and am getting stocked up on things to make the recovery time better!

      • goldeygrad97 says:

I did the hysto shopping too. I will tell you, they told me it would be six to eight weeks before the hot flashes started. Liars!!! Mine started in less than two weeks. Since our cancer is driven by estrogen, don’t let them give you hrt. I recommend 400 ius per day of vit E and a b-complex. It helps with the hot flashes and night sweats. And don’t panic with the night sweats because it makes them worse. Zen out, use a cold compress on the back of your neck, and keep a glass of ice water close by! Chemo makes the hot flashes worse, so be prepared! And sweat pants will be your best friend!!

      • Thank you, that’s good to know!! They did tell me I probably wouldn’t be able to take hrt because of the cancer and I am ok with that. I am currently taking B-12 and Vit D, I will have to pick up some Vit E also. I wonder how long the hot flashes and night sweats will last…forever?

      • goldeygrad97 says:

I was told the hot flashes can last up to 18 months. Mine were starting to get better until I restarted chemo last week and then they got bad again. I can also recommend the Poise Menopause products – they have wipes and a gel roll on that really do help.

And avoid soy. Soy is bad for those of us with endo cancer.

      • 18 months isn’t too bad I guess! I thought it would last until I was in my 60’s or something crazy which is so far away that I can’t even comprehend it right now!!
