Sacrifices I Have To Make

As I mentioned in my last post I am having a hard time healing. I have never had an incision so big to heal and didn’t think that I would ever have any issues with healing. So I did what I often do, I scoured the internet to find information on wound healing. I found information on protein and how eating more protein will help you heal faster. I am a plant based eater, I haven’t eaten meat since August 2011 (with the exception of turkey at Christmas). I don’t think you need animal protein to survive, but my body is in need of animal protein to heal. I’ve had chicken soup, chicken breast, fish and steak over the past week and let me tell you I am healing so much better. It makes me feel guilty because I think eating plant based is really good for me but, I have to eat meat right now to make myself better.

My weekend was packed full of company. Owen’s birthday was on Friday so we had dinner out on Friday night. Saturday was spent with Owen’s family and then Sunday was spent with some of my mom’s family. It was wonderful to see so many people and spend time with people who care about me. It was the most time I’ve spent with anyone besides my parents and Owen since I left the hospital. Sunday night I had to go to bed early because I was really tired, but it was wonderful to see so many people.

I received a quilt from St. Leo’s Catholic church last week. I was so surprised and overwhelmed by the generosity of the quilters, women who probably don’t even know me. I look forward to finding them the perfect thank you card to express my gratitude.

I have one more week until my next appointment with the oncologist. One more week to wait to find out what my next steps are!

    Before I was diagnosed I hadn’t eaten meat in more than a decade. Going through chemo, however, I ended up actually having a steak just to boost my blood production levels. The one thing I am trying to do is to get local meat and meat that is free of chemicals, etc. Do not feel guilty. Right now you need to do what you need to do to ensure your health. Feel better soon!

    You know my Veggie/Vegan stance…You’re supposed to eat meat. You’re a human. We have teeth designed to gnaw on the flesh of the more delicious life forms for a reason!

    This post reminded me of Phoebe from Friends when she was pregnant and craving meat. Joey stopped eating it so that she could … that way no further animals would have to die so she could have meat. So…………tell Owen or your dad that they can’t eat chicken until you’re healed! That should help with your guilt ๐Ÿ˜€

    I’m glad you found out what makes you feel better – don’t feel guilty, your body’s healing is what’s most important to you. When I was bleeding constantly from endometriosis, I could not keep my iron levels up at all – I was a vegetarian and nearly vegan, and no amount of vegetarian iron-rich food helped (I had no appetite, either, and the body doesn’t absorb non-heme iron as well anyway). Iron supplements make me sick, so meat it was (after a long discussion with my nutritionist) and i felt INSTANTLY better. I’m now more stable and moving back towards a vegan diet to help fix the endo pain (ironic, almost).

    I hope you keep feeling better!

    • Our bodies are so complicated! I know I need to eat meat right now to help me heal, but there is something about meat that gives me a weird rash on my leg…thankfully it doesn’t appear over night, but it could return if I eat meat for a long period of time. I’m glad that your endo is more stable.

Hi Renee, glad to hear that u r healing and feeling better,but all ur friends and families are trying to get u better, the sooner u feel better, the better it will be,because you can get the info on what the DRS. are gonna do, and before you know it you will be all healed up and you can go back to doing what you want to do. you have had a long stretch not feeling good , so its time for you to get better,And do what you want,but in my book your a very strong young lady, and thats why I am wishing you all the luck in the world so you can get your life back,I know it hasn’t been easy for you being sick, so thats why i am wishing you really good luck on your healing, you have to eat meat do it , it will help you heal faster.and here is loads of prayers and hugs coming your way,So I hope this helps you, just bein a friend and all I want is to see you on the road to recovery,and before you know it this will be all over,Just want you to feel better and put your pretty smile on and praying for you every step to your recovery, AFA and get better and have good luck on your next DRS. appointment, please keep me up dated ok. ttul Renee,xoxoxo and hugs ,

    • Thanks Lee Ann. It’s so nice having people pulling for me. I can’t wait to get my life back, but for now I’m taking each day at a time and enjoying the days when I feel well enough to do stuff!
